HOW TO STOP HAIR BREAKAGE & SHEDDING

We all know that one of the common causes of set back for most naturals is excessive breakage and shedding. Although, it’s normal to have minimal shedding and breakage while manipulating our hair and in fact, it's part of your hair cycle for hair to fall out. But once it becomes above normal, it can slow down length retention. Be alarmed when you start to notice lots of strands clogging up your shower or coming out when you brush your hair.

But it's not the end of the world, we promise. Losing around 100 hairs a day is normal, and it's not until you start noticing a lot more hair in the shower, or your hair comes out easily with just gentle pressure that you should be really concerned and look into how to stop hair from falling out

In today’s blog, We will be sharing COMMON CAUSES OF HAIR SHEDDING & BREAKAGE AND HOW TO STOP IT!

What Causes Hair Shedding?

There can be a number of causes; genetics is the primary reason for men and many women, Also apart from intrinsic factors such as stress, diet, medication side effects, hormones, etc. Other causes of hair breakage are the flowing:

HAIR AND SCALP DRYNESS

Considered the most common cause of hair shedding or breakage. Moisture from moisturizing hair conditioners and moisturizers strengthen our hair strands. Lack of or inadequate moisture in our hair and scalp makes it prone to shedding and breakage; even a little manipulation that the hair would normally handle would cause it to break/shed if your hair and scalp are dry.

SPLIT ENDS

If the ends of your hair are matte and ragged, it makes it difficult to detangle and manipulate, placing more strain on the hair and causing it to break.

NOT PROTECTING IT AND OVER STYLING

This is another common reason our hair breaks/sheds. Not protecting it correctly and over-styling like tight braids and ponytails can cause our hair to break.

USING THE WRONG TOOLS & METHODS TO DETANGLE

Wrong methods of detangling can make or break your hair. Using the wrong comb or not knowing how to properly detangle your hair taking into account your hair density (volume), width (how thin/thick it is), and type (curl pattern) can cause chunky parts of your hair to break during detangling.

PRODUCT BUILDUP

If we leave our hair too long without clarifying it, the products we apply to it build up and it becomes difficult for the hair to pick up further products applied. The product build-up also weighs it down and it starts to shed/break.

How to Stop Your Hair from Shedding?

EAT BALANCED DIET

Eat a balanced diet, with plenty of vegetables, lean meat, and seafood—all of these contain the essential nutrients for hair. Look for foods packed with vitamins and healthy fats, like eggs or avocados.

  • Seeds like flax or chia are full of omega-3 fatty acids, which help keep hair healthy and strong, while also promoting new growth.
  • Spinach is full of iron, which helps carry red blood cells to your scalp to promote new hair growth.
  • Food full of vitamin C, like oranges, tomatoes, and peppers, helps produce collagen, which keeps hair follicles healthy.

AVOID TIGHT HAIR STYLE AND USE HAIR PROTECTION WHILE SLEEPING

If you're experiencing shedding, a tight braid is definitely not helping. Avoid tight hairstyles and harsh chemical treatments or heat near the scalp. These can stress follicles and lead to increased hair fall."

The American Academy of Dermatology says that you can help prevent early hair loss by looking for signs you've got your hair pulled back too tight. Have breakage near your hairline or where you secure your hair back? Try wearing a looser style. Loosen your braids, don't pull your hair into super tight updos, and try to change up your hairstyle when you can. Alternating styles not only give you a new look, but it also gives your hair some time to recover. Also putting a satin sleeping cap on your hair can help it to stay in place while you sleep and avoid pulling and pressure on your locks. Try our satin bonnets to give your hair full protection while you were having Youtube beauty sleep.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP

Sounds weird but practical, get at least seven to eight hours of sleep, as the body and mind need that amount to regenerate. The hormone that helps regulate your sleep cycle, melatonin, has also been proven to promote hair growth (both when applied topically and when you get enough of it from sleep).

Not only is getting enough rest vital to helping your hair grow, but it can also help keep your hair from getting super oily. When you lose out on sleep, your stress levels can rise, leading to not only decreased hair growth but also increased oil production.

TAKE A SUPPLEMENTS

Oftentimes when life gets busy you might forget to eat healthy foods taking supplements Glammednaturallyoil Biotin Vegetarian Strawberry Gummies For Hair Growth to help and make sure you get the nutrients you may be lacking. This Hair Gummies have biotin in them, which is important to promote new hair growth and healthy hair follicles.

HAVE A REGULAR WASH DAY ROUTINE

One of the best preventative measures is incorporating regular scalp care into your regular wash day routine. Whether you're washing twice weekly, or even twice a month (for 4c Type), it's important to give both your scalp and your hair follicles the good treatment they deserve. Using weekly shampoo scalp treatments that stimulate follicular health goes a long way to help retain the strength and vitality of the hair follicle.

We recommend Glammednaturallyoil Biotin Shampoo, which detoxes the scalp using essential oils to clarify and purify, without removing any of the good oils. After washing and conditioning your hair with our Biotin moisturizing conditioner , rinse your hair with our Ayurvedic tea rinse.  Our tea rinse reduces the appearance of shedding at first usage, using it consistently over time will promote length retention.

Also, you can pair it with our scalp massage brush so you can really get into those roots.
